You may or may not know this but the Hosts file is where you can manually enter a hostname and an IP address pair in order to bypass the DNS server. Knowing how to edit the Hosts file can save you some headache especially if you are in the field of IT.

The path for the Hosts file

C: windows/system32/drivers/etc/hosts

If the files do not show up they may be hidden to show hidden files click the down arrow next to organize (top left) then choose Folder and search options.

Click view and then click the Show hidden files, folders and drives radio button.

To start editing the your hosts file click start button, type notepad in the search field, right click on notepad and click Run as Administrator.

From here go to the location of the hosts file click the down arrow next to Text Documents (*.txt) and choose all files. If you don’t do this you will not see the hosts file.

After editing the host file save you changes and everything should work just fine.
